Have you ever experienced the frustration of seeing something you've worked so hard for crumble before your very eyes with one small, fatal misstep?
What did you do about it? Did you get back on track? Can you get back on track? Is there a point of no return--for better or for worse? Did you despair of ever reaching your goal?
Or did you say to yourself, "All right. I messed up, but that doesn't mean that all that work was for nothing. Tomorrow is a new day; next week is a new week; next month is a new month. Just because I took a step back...or two...or however many...doesn't mean that all is lost. Vaiter, onward and upward!"
How do you decide how to react? Is it a conscious decision, or do you react on autopilot? Or does your conscious reaction temper your automatic one?
As usual, I seem to have more questions than answers...

I have a similar situation where I am trying to accomplish some things but it's moving very slowly and so I have to keep trying
It's very easy to despair when that happens and fall into depression. That will be defeating the whole goal though cuz then you'll definitely be left with nothing. Sometimes you just need a breather from whatever it is you were working for...and then when you attack it again with renewed vigor, it may just work out. Good luck with everything!
Depends whether it's throwing good money after bad, I guess. You have to step back and say, "I've worked hard on this, but is it worth the effort of pursuing further?" Objectively, of course. Also, is it possible to succeed after this?
lvnsm27--I wish you much continued hatzlacha.
halfshared--it is easy to fall into that trap, far too easy. Unfortunately, this isn't something I can "take a break" on, but c'est la vie. Just gotta muddle through anyway.
B4S--yes, this is definitely something worthy (even necessary) of pursuit. And it's not costing me a penny. I do hope I can still succeed--it's a matter of picking up where I left off without kicking myself too hard for messing up.
Yes, that unfortunately happened to me all too many times. I always feel like giving up, but in the end I don't, because I'm too stubborn and it feels like a shame to give in to the circumstances after having invested so much time and effort.
Sigh. Aren't there always more questions than answers? [I was going to phrase this "There are always more questions than answers." But that would be an answer, not a question. ;-) ]
irina--that's a great quality to have, not giving up even when you've made mistakes. It'll get you far in life! :)
SIS--[double sigh] you got that right...
for me, it depends on the situation.
sometimes i'll plod on, and other times, i'll just drp the whole thing.
I once sent someone a poem to a friend..
It began like this:
'What is life, but a series of questions
And our individual and eternal hopes
That we are living the answers..'
It continued like this..
'The seemingly endless kaleidescope of choices
Form a special sequence of light
For each of us
Through the paths we take
At any chosen moment
We can look back at our individual journeys
As if each step we take
Leaves an emblazoned neon footprit
In the swirling haze
We create works of art
That shape our destinies...'
It continues, but this was what I wanted to share..
We have many choices.
Not all automatic reactions
are the ones that are best way forward
Some are,
Some not
You have to make the choice,
With which course of action will you follow through ...
You have an intelligent and thoughtful head on your shoulders
I believe in you.
Best of luck
Scientists have long held that there are no failed experiments. Every experiment is a learning opportunity, including learning what not to do as well as what to do. These same scientists also say that failure is not failure if it pushes you further up the road you want to travel, puts you one step closer to your goal. They will admit, if pushed, that this can sometimes be frustrating, but that, too, is part of the "journey." How you deal with the frustration can determine how fast you move down the road.
dreamer--in this case, it's not something I can just drop, though at times it's a tempting thought.
TOWIK--wow...thank you so much for sharing that, and for your confidence in me. :) (Also, I'm glad you're still commenting, even if you're not blogging!)
profk--that's a good piece of advice to keep in mind. Thank you.
It depends, PwG. Are we talking about a shidduch or an investment/business endeavor.
If you learn Chovos Levovos, you see that nothing you did caused anything to go down the drain. Hashem wills every single endeavor to exist, or falter every single second. Its a lack of emuna and betochin, to say , Oh, could of, would of, should of. If Hashem wanted you to suceed at any particular thing you would have..
Hihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihi!
Whew! so glad to see the old bloggers are still at it..woohoo for scraps!
semgirl--it's neither of those, but thank you for the advice. :)
FLORRIE!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU ON A BLOG IN AGES!!!! Thanks for stopping by, chica!
I've said the words, but believing them is a little harder:) And welcome back!
Of course believing it is harder. I never said it was easy...heck, sometimes even just getting back on track in and of itself is hard. It depends on what you're trying to do (or not do, in some cases).
asking the right questions is half the answer. good luck with whatever troubles you.
Thank you.
