I love this song, which I was reminded of recently. A good friend of mine and I used to sing it in a duet, with her singing harmony and playing the piano while I sang the melody line. It's a beautiful song, though a sad one, filled with longing. I've heard lots of different theories as to what it's about. What do you think?

pobody--welcome! :) I like it when I get new visitors. That's one of the ideas that I've heard. I sometimes like to think about it as a mashal for our relationship with Hashem--that even though sometimes it looks (and feels) like He's left us, that He still loves us and will always come back...and we miss Him terribly when it seems like He's not here.

I'm with PN. At first I thought it was something else (mother crying for other reasons, etc.) but... yeah. Really sad. I've never heard it, though.

My first thought while reading this was like Jameel's - I'm pretty certain it refers to divorce. What a sad, moving portrayal from a child's perspective. There's something about Hebrew rhyming lyrics that makes a song on this topic very heartfelt. I know it will make me think twice before arguing senselessly with my husband . .

It's a sad song about the daddy living home because the parents are separating.
